Comparing with 比



Use A 比 B + adjective to say one thing is more so than another.
Describing Actions with 得



Add 得 after a verb, then an adjective, to describe how well or how an action is done.
Ongoing Actions with 着



Add 着 right after a verb to show an action or state is continuing.
Past Experience with 过



Add 过 right after a verb to say you have done something before, as a past experience.
About to Happen: 要...了



Use 要...了 to say something is about to happen very soon.
就 vs 才: Early or Late



Use 就 to say something happens early or soon, and 才 to say something happens late or only under a condition.
Reason and Result: 因为...所以...



Use 因为 to give a reason and 所以 to state its result, in the same sentence.
虽然...但是... Contrast



Use 虽然 to introduce a fact and 但是 to give a contrasting result, forming the full 虽然...但是... pattern.

Use 一边 before each of two verbs to say the same person does both actions at the same time.

Use 每 before a noun and 都 before the verb to say every single one does or is the same.

Use 从...到... to mark a start and end point in time or place, and 离 to say how far one place is from another.
Direction with 向 and 往



Use 向 or 往 before a place to show which way an action is aimed; 向 can also mark a person as the target of a non-movement action, but 往 cannot.

Use 给 to mark the person who receives an action, who something is given or done to.
Directed At Someone: 对



Use 对 before a person or thing to mark who or what an action, feeling, or quality is directed at.
Making or Letting: 让



Use 让 to say one person makes or allows another person to do something.
Telling Someone Not To: 别



Use 别 before a verb to tell someone not to do something.
Counting Times: 第一 / 次



Use 次 to count how many times something happens, and 第一(次) to say the first time.
